Your data

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026

This policy explains what GyanBook India (gyanbook.org) collects when you use the website, why, who helps us process it, what other students can see, and how you can delete your account at any time. We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising.

1. What we collect

  • Account details: your name and email address. If you sign in with Google we also receive your Google profile name and photo. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication — we never see or store them.
  • Profile details you choose to add: mobile number, school, college, coaching institute, state, district, and the exams and subjects you are preparing for.
  • Learning activity: the answers you submit, scores, accuracy, time taken, XP, streaks and leaderboard entries.
  • Things you post or send: forum posts, replies and upvotes; messages sent through the contact form; your email address if you subscribe to the newsletter.
  • Payments: the plan you buy, the amount, and the order and payment IDs and status. Card, UPI and bank details are entered on Razorpay's checkout and are never sent to us.
  • Usage and device information: on the live site we use Google Analytics for Firebase, which records pages viewed, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
  • Stored on your device: your sign-in session and an offline copy of your data so the app works on slow connections. Signing out clears it from that browser.

2. How we use it

  • To run your account, grade your quizzes on our servers, and show your history, analytics and leaderboard rank.
  • To unlock paid plans after a payment is confirmed, and to handle refunds.
  • To reply to your messages and, only if you subscribed, to send the newsletter.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and understand which features are used so we can improve them.

3. What other people can see

  • Leaderboards are public: your name, profile photo, score and accuracy appear on leaderboards for the exams you attempt.
  • Forum posts and replies are public and show your name.
  • Everything else — email, phone, school and other profile details, your quiz history and analytics — is visible only to you and to GyanBook administrators who need it to support you.

4. Service providers we use

  • Google Firebase (Google LLC): hosting, sign-in, database, file storage, server functions and analytics. Data is stored on Google Cloud servers, which may be located outside India, including in the United States.
  • Razorpay (Razorpay Software Pvt. Ltd.): payment processing.

They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. We share data with authorities only when the law requires it.

5. Students under 18

Many of our users are school students. If you are under 18, please use GyanBook with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian can write to support@gyanbook.org to see, correct or delete their child's data, and we will act on verified requests.

6. How long we keep data

  • Your data is kept for as long as your account exists.
  • When you delete your account, your profile, quiz history, scores, leaderboard entries, analytics, notifications, contact messages, newsletter subscription and uploaded profile photo are deleted. Forum posts and replies stay so other students' answers are not lost, but your name and photo are removed from them.
  • Payment records are kept for the period Indian tax and accounting law requires, without your name or account link.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Correct your details any time from your Profile page.
  • Delete your account yourself: Profile → Security & Privacy → Delete my account. If you cannot sign in, email support@gyanbook.org from your registered address.
  • Ask a question or raise a complaint about your data by writing to support@gyanbook.org. We aim to reply within 7 days.

8. Security

All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to data is controlled by server-side security rules, quiz answers are checked on our servers, and administrator access is limited. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and do not share your account.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell signed-in users about significant changes. Also see our Terms of Service.
